Coach JJ earns a spot in the 2017 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow this August after firing rounds of 70-73-73-72 at the difficult Crosswater Course at Sunriver in Bend, Oregon. JJ earned his way to play in the PGA Professional Championship last week after being a top 5 ranked PGA Professional in the South Texas PGA (all PGA Professionals in Houston, San Antonio, Austin). With fellow GPG Coach and brother RJ Wood (Former PGA Tour Canada player) on his bag for the week, they were able to play consistent golf from tee to green and comfortable advance to a major championship! JJ has high level playing and coaching experiences, which he will draw on at his first major championship this August. As a player, JJ was ranked in the top 75 in the World Golf Amateur Rankings in 2005-2006, while also competing at the USGA US Amateur and NCAA National Championships. As a professional, JJ had numerous top-5 finishes before focusing on his coaching career. His coaching career includes NCAA golf coaching at Rice University and Ohio State University, and is now offering golf lessons, performance training (mental game) and full player development programs at Golf Performance Group, Wildcat.
Coach Billy struck first in Fort Collins, Colorado by shooting 68 at his sectional qualifier to reserve his spot in this weeks USGA US Senior Open Championship at Salem Country Club in Peamont, Massachusetts. Billy is no stranger to playing golf at the highest level, playing on the national championship team at the University of Houston, winning back-to-back USGA Public Links championships, followed by earning his PGA Tour card. Most of Billy’s career has been dedicated to growing the game and sharing his knowledge through coaching golf. Currently Billy spends time teaching private lessons with GPG at Wildcat Golf Club in addition to his Head Golf Coach position with the University of St. Thomas.
