competed in the 7 and under division. Both girls take lessons through Wood & Olson Golf Performance Instructor Richie Valenzuela at Pecan Grove Plantation CC.

One thing that Richie feels is extremely important when teaching young junior golfers, is that they have fun first and foremost. He mixes in the important fundamentals of the swing, short game and putting through out the lessons.

Here is a rule of thumb when teaching a junior golfer:

  1. Making the game enjoyable is the most important aspect of teaching the game to a junior golfer.
  2. Keep it simple
  3. Get them professional instruction! All parents want their child to be the best they can be, and we often think we know what we are talking about. But it is vitally important to find a qualified golf instructor that can give your junior golfer the necessary information to improve their game. We find that most parents give good information to the youngster, but its not the right information. Remember, each golf swing is unique in its own way, what works for you probably won’t work for someone else.

Our passion at Wood & Olson Golf Performance Academy is working with junior golfers to grow the game. Check out our junior golf programs to see how we can help your little one learn the game!
