Beginner Golf TipsĀ
Beginning to play golf is very intimidating for most people. The most common flaws I see from beginner golfers is how they select equipment and how they learn how to play golf.
Your dad and boyfriend may be an avid golfer, but this does not mean they know how to teach the game. They often know what golf tips work for them but do not know the basic fundamentals for golf that is essential to all players that are just learning how to play golf.
Beginner Golf Tips #1:
Lets start with golf equipment. My first beginner golf tip is DO NOT buy clubs from Academy or Sports Authority just because they are cheaper. These clubs are not made with quality materials and usually have the average life span is 6 months. If you are going to do this, just go ahead and throw $200 out your car window. Instead stick with major club brands such as Ping, Titleist, Taylor Made or Callaway.
When looking for a new set of golf clubs. Make sure it has the basic club assortment, you do not need all 14 clubs, but be sure to include:
- Driver (10 to 13 degrees of loft)
- Fairway Wood
- Hybrid (optional, but typically easiest for most golfers)
- 5 – iron
- 7 – iron
- 9 – iron
- Sand Wedge
- Putter
These clubs are more than enough for the beginner golfer to get started and learn the game.
Beginner Golf Tips #2:
Quality golf instruction. Join a group class or sign up to an intro to golf class. You can find cheap golf lesson deals for $20 through Wood & Olson Golf Performance. It is vital to your golf success to learn the basics correctly. Most dads and boyfriends that try to teach you how to play golf, often give you their opinions and skip over the 5 basic golf fundamentals.
5 Fundamentals:
- Grip
- Posture
- Alignment
- Ball Position
- Stance
Start with these two beginner golf tips and you will be on your way to enjoying golf for a lifetime!
